25th anniversary closing of the mines in Waterschei
De laatste wagen van Waterschei / The last wagon of Waterschei
On 10 September, 1987 the mine building of Waterschei closed its doors for the last time. Now, 25 years later, the building houses "het Mijndepot vzw" and – temporarily - Manifesta 9.
Manifesta 9, the city of Genk and the province of Limburg would like to highlight the 25th anniversary of the closure of the mines and hereby invite everyone and especially all former miners from the region to gather on the September 10, 2012 at the former mine building of Waterschei to visit Manifesta 9.
Apart from the Manifesta 9 exhibition we planned a range of extra activities. Several Mijndepot vzw volunteers will exhibit their own artworks, there will be tours, activities for children,...
From 10h to 18h ex-miners, their families and friends can visit the exhibition for free. At 17h several speakers will discuss their views on the past, present and future of the mines and the mining heritage.
It is undoubtedly a great opportunity to reminisce, share stories, get back in touch with ex colleagues, and discover a unique exhibition in the imposing mine building of Waterschei.
Therefore we would like to cordially invite you to participate in this special day. Participation is free, registration is not required. However, we are interested in nice pictures, interesting stories or object from your time as a miner. Be sure to bring something!
